You or your representative must be available for the inspection of your vehicle on pick-up and the delivery. They will need to sign the bill of lading confirming the condition outlined by the driver. If the vehicle is in your possession it’s fast and easy to take time stamped photos all around prior to pick up. If you are buying a vehicle sight unseen we recommend that you hire a third party to inspect the vehicle like a near by dealership mechanic or professional inspection company which you can find online.
Make sure your vehicle is in good enough condition to withstand the carrier trip intact. In the unlikely event of damage occurring during transport you must note it on the bill of lading and retain a copy to make a claim. Claims must be initiated within 24 hrs of delivery. If delivery is at night, make arrangements to meet the driver in a well-lit area and have a flashlight and towel handy to properly inspect your car prior to signing the bill of lading.
Know that the bill of lading is the only legal document that the carriers insurance company will use to process a claim. The Carrier’s responsibility begins when the vehicle owner or representative signs the bill of lading (condition report) on pick up and terminates when the owner or representative signs the bill of lading on delivery.
